What this Log is About

If a man sets out to do a thing, it behooves him to let others know just what it is he is setting out to do.  So with reference to this log, this is my best stab at explaining what it is about.
We live in a dis-integrated and distracted world—it is a truth universally acknowledged.  This log is about my quest, in the face of all the disintegration going on around us, to reintegrate my world—which is only my experience of THE world.  I won’t tell you how to fix your life; you already have too many people, both online and off, claiming to be able to do that.  What I will share is my own humble insights into how, in this massive cosmos, it really does all fit together and ultimately make some kind of sense, even if not always the kind of sense we would prefer.
I am convinced of the truth of that ancient wisdom that one cannot understand anything unless one first understands everything.  That is, without an overall framework into which to fit all the data of our experience, some way of giving us perspective, we cannot really make sense of it all.  I spent years trying to find a perspective, a point of view, that would allow me to make sense of it all (I got 3 master’s degrees so you wouldn’t have to).  The essays published here are an attempt to articulate what I finally found.
So if you are wondering how to make sense of this world we live in; wondering how we can bring science and the spiritual together; wondering how you can still believe in angels and other ministers of grace in a cosmos so vast and strange as the one science reveals to us; If you would marry tradition to progress, scientific literacy to philosophical clarity—with poetry not to be left out; if you, like me, are trying to make sense of the Whole of things, to reintegrate it all, that is what all this space is about.
